Getting a New Library Card

           

Tempe Public Library cards are available for free for the following users:
  • All Maricopa County residents
  • Anyone employed within the city of Tempe
  • Anyone attending school within the city of Tempe
  • Owners of Tempe businesses who reside outside Maricopa County

Temporary Tempe Public Library cards are available through our website here. Temporary cards provide access to most digital materials and allow you to place holds on physical items. Temporary cards need to be finalized by visiting the library and providing photo identification and proof of address within four weeks.

Tempe Public Library cards are available for a non-refundable $40.00 annual fee for the following users:

  • Non-Maricopa County Arizona residents

Tempe Public Library cards with computer use and internet access only are available for free for the following users:

  • Non-Maricopa County Arizona residents
  • Out of state visitors

To obtain a library card, you will need to bring photo identification and proof of address.

Please note:

  • All applicants under age 16 require a parent or legal guardian present to obtain a card.

ACCEPTED VERIFICATION OF RESIDENTIAL ADDRESS

Current Driver's license
Voter Registration Card
Current paystub
Current mail/utility bill (postmarked within 30 days)
Current lease agreement
Note: PO Boxes only are not accepted

VERIFICATION OF EMPLOYER ADDRESS OR SCHOOL ENROLLMENT 

Current print or electronic pay stub, which includes:

  • Applicant's name
  • Employer address within the city of Tempe

Current paper or electronic school records, including:             

  • Enrollment Verification form
  • Course Registration
  • Report Card or Transcript

Renewing Your Library Card

Library cards for Tempe residents expire every three years, non-Tempe residents library cards expire annually. Library cards may be renewed in person, over the phone or you may submit an online renewal formPlease be aware that the online renewal request submission may take up to 48 hours to process.

Please Note:

  • Temporary Tempe Public Library cards (starting with "PACREG") need to be finalized by visiting the library and providing photo identification and proof of address within four weeks. 

Replacing a lost or stolen library card

Library users who have lost their Tempe Public Library card may obtain a free replacement card by showing valid photo ID. Lost cards must be reported to the Library immediately. If a card which was reported lost is found, it should be destroyed or returned to the library for disposal.
